How do I renew an SSL certificate?

We strongly advise you to renew your SSL certificate prior to its expiration date, otherwise, purchase of a new certificate will be required. A renewal notification will be sent to the email address associated with your account 30, 15, 7, 3, and 1 day prior to expiration date. The option to renew the certificate will become available to you 30 days before expiration.

An SSL renewal doesn't happen automatically. You will need to follow steps similar to the steps you followed when you first generated your SSL certificate. To complete
the SSL renewal, follow the steps below:

Purchase renewal certificate

Validate and install

Purchase renewal certificate

Navigate to the section Expiring/Expired > 'Products' tab in your Namecheap account.
You will see the cart icon near the certificate that should be renewed. Click on it and you will be redirected to the cart where the renewal certificate can be purchased:

To purchase a renewal certificate from your renewal email notification, click the ‘Renew Now’ button on the bottom of the email.

After the renewal certificate is purchased, it is necessary to activate it.

  • Generate a new CSR from your hosting control panel. Click here for CSR generation guides.
  • To activate your renewal certificate, go to the Domain List section. Click on the arrow near the domain of the certificate to expand the list of services and locate the certificate that shows the status 'Newrenewal'. Click on the Activate button associated withthis certificate (Note: Please make sure you have the filter 'All Products' selected in the Domain list. Otherwise, only domains without any products assigned to them will be shown):

You will see the field in which you can paste the CSR code and select the necessary details for your certificate. All other steps during the process are similar to your activation that was performed initially.

After you complete all the steps in your account, you will see the certificate management page that will show you that the certificate renewal is in progress.

Validate and install

Complete the DCV step via one of the methods selected during activation process (email, HTTP validation, or DNS-based validation). Also, if you have an OV or EV certificate, the company information will be verified one more time and the necessary documents will need to be re-submitted to the Certificate Authority.

NOTE: You will need to submit documents in order for the Certificate Authority to verify your business for Organization and Extended validation certificates even for renewal. To speed up the certificate issuance process, you also need to ensure that you have correct and up-to-date contact information in Whois, governmental, and independent business databases such as DnB and Bloomberg.
