Is your domain eligible for transfer?

Take a look at the requirements for transferring different types of TLD:

This includes, .com, .net, .org etc. And some new gTLDs, such as .bid, .club, .trade, and .tech. Plus other ccTLDs like .tv, .me, and .co etc.

The domain must have been registered or transferred at least 60 days ago
The domain must be unlocked at the current registrar

These are the .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk, and .me.uk TLDs.

They can be transferred within 60 days after registration or a previous transfer
They do NOT support Transfer Lock
They do NOT support Auth/EPP code

To transfer your .UK domain to Namecheap, you need to change its IPS tag to NAMECHEAP-INC at your current registrar. You may do this through your account with them, or by contacting their support. Then initiate the transfer at Namecheap.

These transfers are free of charge and do not include domain renewal.

Whether you’re hosting the DNS yourself, or through a web hosting company, your nameservers will be transferred over and you should not experience any downtime.

If you are using a registrar’s default nameservers and want to avoid downtime during transfer, we advise taking the following steps:

Once your domain starts using our FreeDNS, start the transfer
After the transfer, the FreeDNS will automatically switch to our default nameservers

Frequently asked questions about domain transfers

Domain transfers can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 days to complete. The exact time-frame depends on the domain’s TLD and the time required for your current registrar to complete the process.

If you’re looking to switch registrars for any reason, Namecheap is the best place to transfer a domain.

If we are talking about generic TLDs (such as .com, .info, .agency, etc.), the remaining time that you have with your current registrar will not be lost, it gets carried over. Plus, your domain will be renewed for one year as part of our service.

If you renew your domain name after the domain has expired, you will need to wait 45 days after the expiration date before you can transfer. Otherwise, you may lose the renewal year that you paid for with the previous registrar.

When it comes to country-code extensions (.de, .uk, .es, etc.), each Registry may set its own rules. Find out if your domain is eligible for transfer now.

People move domains for different reasons. If cost is a concern, they may transfer a domain to a cheaper registrar to take advantage of a low price or the best deals. Sometimes they may just prefer the services another company has on offer.

Yes, you can. To do this, unlock the domain with your current Registrar and get the Auth/EPP code from them. Once you have the code, submit the transfer. Please contact our Support Team if you require further assistance.

When you move your domain, the remaining time you had left with your old registrar is automatically included. The one year you have registered for, is added on top. Extra renewals can be added on after you have transferred.

The exception is UK group TLDs - they are not renewed during transfer and are free to move.

If you have renewed your domain within the last 45 days: The one-year extension normally added to the domain during a transfer may not be included. This situation occurs only if the domain actually expired before you renewed it with your previous registrar. If this is the case with your domain, we recommend you wait to move your domain until the 45-day period has passed, allowing you to take advantage of the extra year added.
