MX records

You can check and change MX records and Email routing for domains pointed to Namecheap Web Hosting DNS following the steps below.

1. Log into your cPanel, navigate to Domains section > Zone Editor menu:

2. Click Manage next to your domain:

3. Go to the MX tab:

The default MX record for all hosted domains is mail.yourdomain.tld:

If you would like to use a third-party mail service for your domain, you need to:

1. Remove existing MX records for your domain:

2. Add a new MX record(s) using the Add Record button:

This video-guide will also be helpful during the record creation process:

3. Set Email Routing to Remote as described below.

Log into your cPanel, go to the Email section > Email Routing menu:

By default, Email Routing is set to Automatically Detect Configuration for all hosted domains:

Note: The Automatically Detect Configuration option determines the routing mode based on the DNS records configured in the cPanel account's Zone Editor. It does not perform external DNS lookups and does not automatically re-evaluate the routing configuration after DNS changes are made. To ensure the correct routing mode is used, we recommend selecting the appropriate option manually.

Select Local Mail Exchanger if you want this hosting account to handle email for the domain:

The Remote Mail Exchanger option should be used when email for the domain is handled outside the current hosting account. Common examples include Private Email, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or another hosting server.

To change the routing mode, select the desired option and click Change.

That's it!
