The New Registration Data Policy will be effective as of August 21, 2025. When that happens, the Registrant Organization will be considered the Registered Name Holder (RNH) or registrant. If you recently received an email from Namecheap on the matter or you want to add a company name to the domain contact information, here's what it means for you, and what you may need to do.
What Changed and Why You Were Contacted
If your Registration Data currently contains a value for Registrant Organization, that will be the RNH for the domain. You will still be able to manage the domain, but the Company listed in the Registrant Organization will be the registrant.
What You Need to Do
Review the contact details for each of your domains, with a special focus on the Organization field.
- If the domain truly belongs to your business and your company name is valid and accurate, no action is required.
- If the domain is for personal use, consider removing the company name to stay as an individual.
To review or update these details, go to Dashboard -> Domain List-> Manage button next to your domain -> scroll to Domain Contacts. Here is a guide you can use: https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/305/46/how-do-i-change-the-contact-information-for-my-domain/.
What Happens If You Leave the Company Name?
Your company name will be treated as a Registered Name Holder or Registrant of your domain name, not you as an individual.
You may want to publish or keep private your company name. You can use our privacy service to do it: enable privacy if you want to keep your registration data and any company name private, and disable if you want to publish the domain contacts.
Please also note that some Registries may publish contact details of the company-owned domain names. However, with enabled privacy, we don’t pass any real contact data to the Registries, no matter if the company name is filled in or not, and your data is always protected.
When Should You Add a Company Name?
- Use a Company Name - if the domain is registered on behalf of your business (e.g., for a company website, product, or service).
- Leave only a Personal Name - if the domain is for personal projects or individual use (e.g., a portfolio or blog).
Do I Need to Notify Namecheap After Making Changes?
No confirmation is required. You're all set once your domain contact details are correct. If you have questions or need clarification, support is always available.
