Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register a child’s name?

Follow the steps above to check the availability of the domain name you want. Then follow the steps to process the transaction adding the discount code to the shopping cart at the end.

What's the difference between a domain name and web hosting?

To have a website, you need both a domain and hosting. Your domain gives people a way to find your website, and your hosting is space on a server (a remote computer) where all of your website content resides.

Think of a domain like it's your website's street address, and hosting is like the website's house. You can have your address before you build your house, but ultimately you will need somewhere to put your things.

Will I own the domain forever?

No. A domain must be renewed every year in order for you to retain ownership. Prices may fluctuate from year to year, and note that offer prices apply to the first year only.

How can I create a website?

You can create your website in several different ways. EasyWP Managed WordPress Hosting is a quick, effective app that allows you to get a website up and running. See our articles section for more information on how to do this.

What is WhoisGuard and how do I get my free WhoisGuard?

WhoisGuard is privacy protection for you that is free for life. When you register a domain, you’re asked to give your personal details for the Whois Database (an online database of who owns which domain). WhoisGuard substitutes your personal information with generic information for that database keeping your personal details private.

WhoisGuard will be added to the shopping cart automatically with each eligible domain registration or renewal, and it will be enabled by default. You will not need to do anything extra in order to have WhoisGuard protection on your website.

Where can I find more/other offers from Namecheap?
