Note: Namecheap is offering free replacement of your current Symantec certificate to its Comodo equivalent. We are always here to clarify any SSL-related points and provide assistance on the way. You can replace your Symantec certificate with Comodo one for free by following this link.
After the Symantec sunset starting December 1, you can find the following options for your Symantec group certificates in your Namecheap account:
If you have a non-activated Symantec group certificate (GeoTrust, Symantec or Thawte), the “Activate” button is changed to “Replace”.
When you click this button, the next options will be available for you:
- Detailed description of the Symantec sunset process and F.A.Q with the details (1);
- Replace your certificate with an alternative Comodo one (2);
- Request the full refund for your certificate (3).
If you have decided to replace your Symantec group certificate with a Comodo one, it is necessary to click the “Replace” button.
NB: The system offers you the most appropriate alternative certificate issued by Comodo and the details such as price, your savings compared to your Symantec group certificate, validation level, domains/subdomains secured by this Comodo certificate, refund period, green bar and additional domains( if applicable).
Once the button is clicked, the certificate is replaced with its Comodo equivalent, and the following message appears:
The non-activated Symantec certificate which has been replaced gains the "Canceled" status and will be removed from the account within 30 days.
The new Comodo certificate is now listed in the Product List section > SSL Certificates in your Namecheap account:
NB: When you replace the certificate, our system cancels and refunds your Symantec group certificate to account funds automatically and purchases a new Comodo SSL using the issued refund. This process can be tracked here.
This certificate requires activation which can be done by clicking the “Activate” button. The detailed description on how to do it can be found here.
If you have decided to cancel your Symantec group certificate without replacement, please follow the next steps:
- Click on the “get a refund” button:
- On the pop-up page, you will see the following message: “You will be refunded the price of your Symantec group product (Symantec, GeoTrust, Thawte). Do you wish to proceed?”. Please click on “Get Refund” to continue.
You will see the blue message at the top of the window: “SUCCESS! *Name of product* has been removed from your account. A refund will be posted to your account shortly.”, which means that the certificate has been canceled successfully:
If you need to reissue your active Symantec group certificate, you can do it in the End-User account panel only.
If you click on the Reissue button in your Namecheap account, the following page will be shown:
When you click on the Symantec End-User account page link, you will be forwarded to the login page of your Symantec portal account. In order to get access to it, you need to fill in the next credentials:
NB: If you need any help with these credentials, you can always contact our Support Team.
- domain name used as a common name for your certificate
- order ID ( keep in mind that it is your Issuer order ID which can be located in the Welcome email from Symantec group);
- administrative email address which was chosen at the last step of your certificate activation;
If your Symantec group (Symantec, GeoTrust or Thawte) certificate is coming up for renewal, you will be offered to order a mapped COMODO certificate instead (certificate issued by Comodo and identical to your expiring Symantec group SSL).
To renew, click the link in the renewal notification and you will be redirected to the login page.
Once you are logged into your Namecheap account, you will be forwarded to the shopping cart where you can pay for the new Comodo certificate.
