Middle Technical Operations Engineer

Location: Ukraine, Kharkiv

Experience level: 5+ years experience


Technical Operations Representative will contribute to keeping and maintaining the Namecheap Hosting Ifrastructure. You will work directly with software and hardware that represents hosting infrastructure, performing tasks and reacting to monitoring system.

  • Strong Linux/Unix experience

  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Pre-Intermediate or higher level of written English
  • Good understanding of Namecheap services under management of TechOps team

  • An understanding of LAMP stacks, including the installation, configuration, and management

  • Good understanding of Email, DNS systems principles
  • Good understanding of cPanel/WHM

  • Linux server troubleshooting experience (CentOS mostly)

  • Databases: MySQL based - basic+ knowledge, PostgreSQL - would be advantage

  • Virtualization experience (Xen, VMware preferred)

  • Networking:

    • Good understanding of OSI Model, TCP/IP protocol suite (IP, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP)

    • IP addressing and subnetting, Routing concepts

    • Basic knowledge of routing protocols - BGP, OSPF

    • Switches: Basic Configuration & VLAN setup

  • Scripting (Unix shell, PHP, Python, Perl, etc.)

  • Experience in cPanel and/or other hosting control panels
  • Understanding of caching, load balancing, high availability and fault tolerance
  • A familiarity with maintenance of web applications built using a combination of PHP/HTML/CSS

  • Understanding of security
  • Have excellent written and good verbal communication skills, and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team

  • Able to promptly respond to inquiries via email, instant messaging, ticketing systems and other electronic communications

  • Have a strong will for self-development
  • Strong focus on self-education and self-motivation, team player with keen desire to help others

Nice to haves

  • Experience with distributed storages and network filesystems

  • Experience with high load, high availability and fault tolerance

  • Experience in DDoS mitigation

Education and Work Experience

  • Previous education in the field of IT would be an asset

  • System administration work experience 5+ years


  • build, maintain and monitor infrastructure servers and services, keep their performance and stability on highest level

  • Performing tasks passed by Shift Leader/Shift Leader Assistant
  • process escalated requests from Technical Support and other Technical Operations representatives that are beyond their area of expertize

  • perform deep technical investigations

  • troubleshoot and investigate global technical issues our internal systems/servers may have

  • develop and maintain in-depth product knowledge as well as knowledge of technologies you work with

  • optimize technical processes/procedures to make them more effective and easier both for clients and the team

  • escalate technical issues that are beyond the area of expertize to the more experienced colleagues
  • share best practices and technical knowledge with the team members

  • report bugs/issues found in our systems/servers to the corresponding personnel in accordance to internal procedures

  • share technical knowledge with СS Technical Support representatives to help them develop and grow in technical area to join Technical Operations team
  • stay up-to-date with company news, global processes and policies changes as well as TOS, AUP and any other regulatory documents updates

  • be engaged in continuous training and self-education in such areas as: English Communication, Technical Knowledge and Skills 

  • Performing requests from HipChat rooms (Critical Incidents Reports, Non-Emergency Technical Escalation, TechSup - Infrastructure, TechSup - L&A)
