What Super Intelligence means for .si domains
Every so often, a country’s domain extension ends up standing for something much bigger than the country. Anguilla’s .ai is the famous example. This year, it’s Slovenia’s turn.
On September 22, President Trump told the UN General Assembly that the US government would start calling artificial intelligence Super Intelligence instead. Shorten that, and you get SI. You can probably guess where this is going.
Sure enough, 3,234 .si domains were registered on September 23 alone, more than 30 times the roughly 100 a day earlier that month. September finished with 46,066 new .si names in total, and Registry SI put the month’s increase at 2,199%.
What is a .si domain, and why does it matter now?
It’s Slovenia’s country-code domain, run by Register.si, part of the country’s Academic and Research Network (ARNES), since 1992. Slovenian businesses and organizations still use it as their home online.
You don’t need to be in Slovenia to own one, though. Anyone, anywhere can register a .si domain, from one to five years at a time. And lately, it’s picked up a second meaning that’s getting plenty of attention.
Investors were buying .si before the speech
The Super Intelligence idea didn’t appear out of nowhere. Investors were buying .si names well before the UN speech, and they weren’t the only ones. Domain Name Wire spotted companies picking up .si names too, as early as the first half of 2026.
One of them was AI company Recursive, which paid $20,000 for recursive.si.
Super Intelligence is also already in the name of Safe Superintelligence Inc., the AI lab co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. It was valued at $30 billion in 2025. Then, in July 2026, it announced a long-term partnership with Nvidia, which also invested.
If this kind of early buying sounds familiar, think back to .ai. Registrations jumped from 148,000 in 2022 to over a million by January 2026. Today, every .ai domain of five characters or fewer is taken, according to Kleap. The earlier you got in, the better your choice of names.
Will more companies follow with .si? Nobody can promise that. But if .ai is anything to go by, it pays to have your names in place before they do.
Getting into .si costs a fraction of .ai
Let’s talk numbers. A new .ai domain comes with a two-year minimum and usually starts upwards of $80 a year. With .si, there’s no two-year minimum, and registering one on Namecheap costs far less.
There’s more room to move, too. By early October, the registry had counted more than 258,000 .si domains. For .ai, it’s roughly 1.5 million. With far fewer names taken, your odds of finding a good one are a lot better.
Already own .ai domains? Adding matching .si names means you’re covered whichever term sticks. See which .si names are still available and start with the ones that matter most to you.
Getting in early is the whole point
Not every major registrar offers .si yet. Namecheap does. Right now, you’ve got a low entry price, open registration, and far more choice than .ai offers today. As registrations keep climbing, that choice will shrink.
Register your .si domain with Namecheap and give your portfolio a head start.
