Five New Year’s Resolutions for Everyone Who Owns a Domain

It’s the time of year when we set New Year’s resolutions like losing weight or eating healthy. Sadly, many resolutions are hard to keep, which is why more than half of people end up abandoning them.
As the new year begins, here at Namecheap we want you to feel a sense of accomplishment. If you have any domains, here are five achievable resolutions you can get started on right away!

1. Make Sure Your Whois info is Up to Date

Like changing the batteries in your smoke detector, you should do a checkup on your domains’ Whois information at least twice a year. Failing to keep accurate contact information can lead to domains being suspended. So get off on the right foot by scheduling 30 minutes to verify you have accurate information for all of your domain names.

2. List Your Domains for Sale on Marketplaces

If you’re investing in domains (or even if you just have one you know could make you money), don’t sit around and wait for domain buyers to come to you. Instead, advertise your available domains for sale in front of the right audience by listing them on marketplaces. Popular domain marketplaces like Afternic and Sedo sell millions of dollars worth of domain names each month. The best part is that it’s free to list domains at these sites.

3. Set Up domain privacy on Your Domains

When you register a domain, ICANN regulations require you to provide your name and contact details. As we noted in a previous blog post, this information is by default available to anyone who does a simple WHOIS search on your domain.  This in turn can open you up to spammers and scams. For 2017 make a commitment to set up domain privacy on all of your domains to protect your privacy and reduce spam. It’s inexpensive and can save you a ton of headaches over the long haul

4. Consolidate your Portfolio

It can be a pain to transfer domain names. That’s why people end up having domain names spread across several registrars. Transferring domain names in bulk is fairly easy, though. Make your life simpler by consolidating your portfolio at Namecheap. Check out the low-cost domain transfer pricing available now at Namecheap

5. Set Your Domains on Auto-Renew

Forgetting to renew a domain name and seeing it fall into someone else’s hands is a horrible feeling for domainers (or anyone who has a website). Don’t take any chances. Set up auto-renew for all of your domains so you don’t have to worry about them expiring.
